Quilt & Kit Ministry

Lutheran World Relief has a Quilt & Kit Ministry that has reached so many worldwide!  They are still assessing how to best help the people of Japan through this ministry.  I say get started on your quilt now and send it off - even if it doesn't go to Japan, there is someone somewhere hoping they can stay warm tonight.

For information about their Mission Quilts, click here.

Look at the blue bar on the right to read about other kits you can put together.

Dress A Girl

My searching has led me to another dresses for girls organization - it's called Dress a Girl Around the World.  They work with Hope For Women and have delivered over 19,000 dresses.

They have links to various patterns, and other information including a list of state reps - maybe there's one near you!

Tender Loving Care Ministries

I found information about this organization while doing a search for something else - and am once again blown away by one person's dedication.

Carole started Tender Loving Care Ministries in 1987 and it has continued to grow since then!  She is doing great works for the children of Appalachia.  She collects clothing and personal care items for children.

If you're interested, please contact TLC at johnsoncjtlc@aol.com.  The Easter deadline is March 25th - so get busy!

Whether you would like to make Little Dresses or Britches for Boys - this is an amazing and inspiring organization!  Like they say "We're not just sending dresses, we're sending HOPE!"

Japan

I have been scouring the blogs and internet looking to see what's being organized for Japanese quake victims.  At this point, money seems to be the first thing to donate - obviously other needs will become more apparent as time goes on!
Everyone has their favorite place to donate money in times of emergencies - mine happens to be UMCOR.  It's run through the United Methodist church and 100% of your donation goes to the people in need.  All administrative costs are covered by general UMC donations.

But since this is for the crafty among us - I did find one person who has put together an auction.  Check out the details at A bit of this and a bit of that if you would like to donate or buy something.

She also has free patterns, tutorials and tips for making them - now there's no excuse not to send one on its way!

veterans housing in northern Michigan

My aunt posted about this on Facebook.  She is working with other local quilters to put quilts on each bed by the time it opens.

Check out the news clip about the Homeless Veteran's Transitional Housing Community in Gaylord, Michigan.

Email me or contact Leah Bagdon McCallum at 231.995.7719 if you're interested in helping!

mountain baby blankets

Those of you who know me or read my other blog know I have a big love for the people of Appalachia.  When Rachel saw the Diane Sawyer special a few years ago, she was moved to mission.  I jumped right in and made a few blankets and sent them off.  I think it's time for me to jump back in!

Her recent update said there have been 1000 blankets donated in just two years.  AMAZING!  Are you able to ship off a blanket or two?  {the low tonight in eastern Kentucky will be 37... so many cold toes have made it through this cold winter - let's warm them!}

Contact rachelkrutsch (at) yahoo dot com for shipping information.

Check out some of the blankets in the Flickr group for inspiration.

Love-Believe-Give-Live

I believe in a lot of things - but this phrase pretty much sums it up:
LOVE - BELIEVE - GIVE - LIVE
One of the most important things to me is finding a way to give back - locally AND globally.

My goal for this blog is to feature places that you can donate handsewn items.  Since my primary interest is sewing, that's the area I'll start with.  I may move on to knitting, crocheting, and other crafts, but for now sewing will be my focus.  Some of the groups I feature may be ones I have donated to or have knowledge of, others may be groups I have just read about or groups that interest me.

My hope is that you will find a place that interests you and moves you to give.  Maybe you know of someplace you'd like featured?  Email me - sewgive {at} gmail dot com.  I'll add it to my {ever expanding!} list.

Please speak up in the comments if you've donated to a place I feature.  We'd love to hear about your experience.  If you leave a link to your blog, we can all check out your donated item.  Let's all find a way to LIVE what we BELIEVE and GIVE what we LOVE!!!
